brief

Peter Dean Creative was asked to design a consistent Brand Identity for Ford Rental - the UK’s largest dealer based vehicle rental company.

goals

create a marketing strapline that would give a consistent message at both Corporate and Dealer levels.

create a graphic grid system to allow design layouts to work across all the marketing material.

work within existing Ford UK corporate fonts and guidelines.

creative solutions

The best place to find a Ford vehicle to rent - whether short or long term would be from Ford Rental. To raise the profile of both the national fleet rental and local dealer level businesses it was important that the marketing materials could work alongside each other to give a consistent brand message.

With a dedicated national account managers and in-main dealer sales teams, a marketing straplline that illustrated the resources available by being part of the biggest dealer based rental operation in the UK was conceived.

‘Experience the Service’

This line was used to communicate Ford Rentals breadth of excellent customer service whilst giving the Rental division it’s own unique identity.

The print design used the Golden Ratio grid as a reference and a means of supplying creative work that was flexible and easy to construct when filtered down to the dealer network. This grid system allowed for images, copy and contact details to be inserted by local dealers whilst still maintaining a consistent brand image.

Peter Dean Creative supplied creative, design & artwork for over 25 items for both Corporate and Dealer facing including;
- Folders, Brochures, Leaflets and Tariffs
- Advertising
- Dealer POS
- Direct Mail
- Email marketing
- Van Livery and vehicle stickers
- Excel designed templates for internal use

brief

Peter Dean Creative was asked to design a new Logo and Brand Identity for Virescent - a Digital PR and Events company with roots in ecological and environmental promotions.

goals

- Design a modern logo that would represent this digital PR & events company
- Reflect its ecological background.

creative solutions

Peter Dean Creative put forward a range of strong graphic designs as possible creative directions to explore, with a leaf motif always at the forefront of our thinking.

Virescent founder Emma Jell felt the design with a pixel influenced logomark that imitated a leaf was ideal and this was chosen as the preferred design. Working closely with the client, a vibrant colour – between a yellow and a green, or ‘chartreuse’ was chosen. The final Virescent logotype is strong and vibrant with a clean, fresh feel.

brief

Redz Hair Stylists required a new Brand Identity as they looked to expand their salon outlets and show potential customers to they’re a cut above the rest. Redz Hairstylists offers the complete hair care
experience, including hair extensions and top branded products like Redken. Peter Dean Creative was asked to help develop a new brand identity for the salon.

goals

- Design a classic Logotype that would reflect the style and services of this salon.
- Develop the identity across all print material, signage and social media.
- Advise on a website solutions for future online marketing.

creative direction

I have known Jo, the owner of the salon, for over 10 years and whilst having my hair cut the topic of
setting up a website for the salon was discussed. The salon, in the Suffolk market town of Bungay had just been refurbished, everything from the mirrors to the reception desk had been replaced, apart from, the logo on the windows. I recommended a new logo as a starting point for a new brand identity before online solutions were explored.

Working closely with Jo throughout the design process Peter Dean Creative submitted a range of creative routes; including concepts replicating scissors to mirror the church steeple opposite the salon, designs using a red hairstyle graphic to reflect the salons styling techniques. Jo, however, wanted a design that was a simple logotype with no graphic enhancements. The Ambosia font used in an earlier design was particularly liked, so we concentrated on this font to produce a design that was clean and modern looking. The final logotype was going to be predominately used on a black background and the typographic solution fitted the criteria perfectly.

Jo is extremely pleased with result as it begins to roll out the new branding as the company looks to expand its presence in the region.

Below is just a small sample of the routes explored and final results.

Stage 1

Stage 2

Final Creative:

- Logo & Brand guidelines
- Stationery items
- Signage
- Facebook creative

Secondary elements were the launch of their special edition world cup beer - Game On, along with data capture and offers.

The book is a great way for all creatives to learn the basics of good logo design and just as importantly; how to make a successful living from it. Although graphic designers may love logo design, they also need to understand good business acumen equally to avoid the pitfalls of unhappy clients and costly mistakes. David leads us through the processes of information gathering and mind mapping, selling creative ideas to clients and running a successful studio. These principles can be applied to many creative businesses and are not just limited to logo design.

Written in a clear and concise way and illustrated with inspiring logo design work from both the author and contributor designers, this is a must for all aspiring freelancers and should be a mandatory read for final year graphics students who can benefit from the best practice guide and Davids honest experience of ‘going it alone’.

The book illustrates the workings of a graphic designers mind as much as the work he produces. These workings and case histories can be seen regularly in Davids very successful blogs at http://www.davidairey.com

Check out the book here for a free chapter http://www.logodesignlovebook.com/
Highly recommended.

Posted via email from peterdean’s posterous | Comment »

Blickling Hall / The National Trust

We recently spent a wonderful Spring day at Blickling Hall, courtesy of The National Trusts open day at many of it’s UK properties - a great way way to tempt potential new members to sign up. The present Hall was built in 1616 on the ruins of the 1499 home of Sir Thomas Boleyn. It may have been the birth place of Henry VIII second wife Anne Boleyn in 1505 (or was she born two years later at Hever Castle?). The Hall is reputed to be the Trusts most haunted building. I wonder if Anne will be walking the grounds on May 19th - the date she was executed? Set amongst ornamental gardens with it’s majestic approach flanked by massive and 18th century yew hedges and a lakeside walk, it’s a recommended family day out in North Norfolk.

<div style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);
